In 1995, Josh Gantner and his twin brother A.J. were playing football in the Junior Division of EJFL and his sister Cara was cheering for the Vikings.  Josh became ill and was diagnosed at Riley with Ewings Sarcoma, a form of bone cancer.  At that time, Evansville Junior Football League wanted to do something to help the Gantner family through these troubled times.  EJFL stepped up and did a fundraising game with the proceeds going to the Gantner family for medical expenses.

After three long years of every treatment possible, including a bone marrow transplant from AJ, Josh Gantner lost his battle with cancer in 1999 and passed away.  With the permission of the Gantner family, we have established the “Josh Gantner Memorial ” as Josh was the reason this event was started.

This Award has now become a tradition within EJFL at the end of our season.  Unfortunately, we can always find a recipient in need.  With the permission of the Gantner family, we now have a Josh Gantner Memorial.  Within the last few years, we have incorporated this Memorial at the end of the season at the Cereal Bowl.  If you know of a child in need for medical expenses, please notify your coach, or email us at This email address is being protected from spambots.
